| Description: | This photo was taken backstage between sets at one of the great jazz package shows that used to come to Indianapolis. My records show it to be the year 1957. The greatest are often the most cooperative, and I found Zoot to be quite willing to adjust his reed for the camera, the cigarette in his mouth trailing a bit of smoke. In recent years I have found that musicians who knew him well think that this is one of the best pictures they have seen of him. One bought it expressly to give to Zoot's widow. |
